Great character writing carries a book that otherwise appears quietly unremarkable. Beautiful prose and a captivating story story had me longing for an opportunity to relive my own childhood, though perhaps not in the gruesome poverty of a 1950’s Neapolitan slum.

I eagerly look forward to reading the sequels.
