Timothy Rice

Among Others

If you love books enough, books will love you back.

Rating: 4/5 – Recommended longtime fans of genre fiction.

This was a gentle and delightful story, written to everyone who grew up spending their free time burrowed in books, as the author clearly has. Among Others validates everyone who knows that there’s no better way to spend a weekend than tucked in a chair with a great novel in their lap.

The plot was engaging, though the ending was quite abrupt; it didn’t feel like the book came to the proper emotional conclusion given all the build-up that had taken place. The narrator was fantastic though and if nothing else, this book will give you a giant list of recommendations for what to read next.

Among Others should only be read if you’ve got a strong base in the classics of genre fiction (Tolkein, Herbert, Le Guin, Heinlein, etc.), but if you do you will undoubtedly enjoy this book as much as I did.
